Our Underwriting Team work hard behind the scenes, but this month, we’re bringing them into the spotlight. We sat down with Glynn Moody, our Underwriting Team Manager, to learn more about his role at Royal London Equity Release and how his team can provide you with additional support.

Hi Glynn! Thank you for joining me - can you describe your role at Royal London Equity Release?

Hi! My role is to support and facilitate the underwriting and conveyancing on all our equity release applications.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really enjoy when we get confirmation that a difficult and tricky case has reached completion. It’s also rewarding when we receive feedback, thanking me and my team for our efforts.

What is your team’s purpose? How do you support customers and advisers?

My team’s purpose is to fully underwrite the application and to take it through to completion. I support customers and advisers by making sure my team provide an accurate and efficient service. This means that applications can be completed smoothly, helping customers to get the funds they need.

When do you and your team get involved with a case?

We get involved at any point in the case where advisers need our assistance. This could be to review queries, support with referrals to the funders, liaise with advisers or solicitors, review cases for accuracy and help to support the customer’s journey.

Is there a case that stood out to you where your team went above and beyond?

There are many scenarios that I can recall when my teams have gone above and beyond to help a customer. The team regularly think outside the box so that we can find a way to approve our customer’s loan rather than decline. The team often take personal responsibility to hand hold a case all the way through to completion. There have also been several moments where my team members have stayed on past their shifts so that they could make sure the application completed.

When should our advisers look to contact you about a case?

We usually support advisers with active cases, particularly when they are urgent. We typically provide updates on valuation reports and offers, and can assist the Broker Support Team with pre-application queries for more complicated cases.

Do you have any fun facts about yourself?

One thing that people may be surprised to learn about me is that before I moved into the financial services sector, I was an electrician working on refitting nuclear submarines.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

I would say the best piece of advice I have ever received is to only worry about matters that are within your control.
